My wife Tawny and I have been blessed with 5 children, and our family continues to grow.
These people in this picture are my "Why".
Their future and ours is bright!
I was born and raised right here in St. George. At that time the population of St.George was around 7,800 people. My how things have changed! After graduating from Dixie High School and a short stint at then Dixie College, (Go Dixie!) I ventured out into the world as an LDS missionary in Brazil. What an eye opening experience to live in and learn how another part of the world lives.
Once back home I didn't stay long as economic opportunity seemed better elsewhere. I moved to the Los Angeles California area and became a real estate appraiser for a large financial institution and eventually moved into the mortgage banking side of the business, Working for this company, I was moved to Salt Lake City due to my Utah roots. It was in Salt Lake that I met and married my wife Tawny who grew up in Vernal, Utah. We started our family in Salt Lake where we made many life long friends. Meeting and marrying Tawny is for sure the best part of this whole story.
I was fortunate enough to be able to move back home in 2003 as St. George had grown and prospered enough that my employer had opened a branch here. Once back home I left being an employee and became an entrepreneur opening an independent mortgage brokerage.
In 2011 after what I call my first career, I had the opportunity to follow a dream and I became a partner in a mortuary. This required that I return to school earning an Associates Degree in Applied Funeral Sciences. At that same time I stepped into the political world and was elected to the St. George City Council. What an adventure it has been!
Today along with my wife Tawny, we are the owners and operators of Hughes Mortuary located on 700 South. We have the honor of being able to help people at a most difficult time. I am super blessed that my everyday job allows me to serve others.
I am currently serving on the City Council and serving on many boards and commissions. Serving in the community is something that is a passion that I want to continue.
Along with all of this I have never left my roots, (cause I grew up in boots) and we own and operate a cattle ranch on the Arizona Strip. I grew up doing this with my step-father being a farmer and a rancher and my mother coming from a ranching family from the Arizona Strip. Much of what is known as Green Valley and along Indian Hills Drive was the farm I grew up on feeding cows, irrigating, hauling hay and some days getting to play cowboy! Being out doors and working hard is mind clearing and a form of relaxation for me. It is a great place to teach our children about hard work. On the ranch we like to say we are not just raising cattle but we are raising kids!
